Learning The Avro Arrow
Learning about the Avro Arrow and from the original files, was an opportunity to understand this aircraft even more.
Receiving them, was all thanks to the NRC in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Almost 600 of them, with a few that were copyrighted and unavailable, were declassified from Top Secret, and I was given permission, to share what I have received, in any way I saw fit.
What a grand opportunity here, to have you and I, a chance to learn about the Avro Arrow aircraft.
You also have an opportunity to go "LIVE" on our Facebook page and join my other group-"Friends of Avro Arrow RL25206-An Active Avro Arrow Program", all for free.
From the files, I began to find out, that the Avro Arrows beginnings, may have begun sooner than the 1950s. And as time carried on over 60 years now, it was also understood that this aircraft may have gotten a bit fat in status and performance. Remember the Avro Arrow only got about 100 Hours of "Flight Testing" done before it was shut-down, so it never really had the chance to prove itself.
Now, before I confuse you, the truth is that the
CF-105 itself did begin around "1952-53", and as I said, the Arvo Arrow, and from my files, the Avro Arrow concept, may have begun a year sooner in 1949. But when you think about it, although based on the CF-100.
I am wondering if we can go back possibly even further, when the CF-103, ( Which was supposed to be a newer version of the CF-100), may have been an prelude to the beginnings of the Avro Arrow concept. If you look at the pictures provided, you might see what I mean, as she may have started from a completely different aircraft, as you can see in the background photo.
Experience Aviation History with Early Avro Arrow Pictures
Although rare, our few collections of photographs are from 1949 files, and illuminate the beginning design and launch of the Avro Arrow.
Despite the widely held belief that the CF-105 originated only in the early 1950s, to which they are not wrong, and I will show you why. We are now and with original files with drawings and actual graphs.
Our archive photos offers a rare glimpse of the Arrow's formative years. These drawings are proof of this legendary aircraft's early days.
In the photos, you can see the Avro Arrow based on the CF-100, and how in time 1950, 1951 and so on, the development of the famous delta wings, leading up to the Avro Arrow we know and love.
The Avro Arrow behind these words, is the 1955 drawing with the Iroquois PS13 engine installed. A remarkable change from what is shown in 1949.
